I frequently picked up rare items. Sadly they were usually hammers/axes (I am a N/R) yet any item selling for 150 gold is good .

I have been playing Guild Wars for a long time but I don't think I've ever been "drake hunting." There was one map in a previous event that had some sort of lightning drakes on the river but we were in the middle of a mission and didn't stop to kill them all. What level are the ones that people usually hunt and where are they located? Do they have any special abilities I should be cautious of?

You can Drake Hunt at Sanctum Cay or the nearby explorable area.
They make pretty easy targets, level 18s using Lightning Orb and melee attacks. |

Drake Hunting...Hmm... Actually I did that in the region between Frost Gate & Kyrter....( I think I spelled it right) It was completely accidential the drake was labeled something totally different... I turned the corner and there was 1 drake and I turned 180 deg, there was another As I was about to kill 1 the other attacked... OUCH it's called half dead while not looking. It was me and 4 hired help....Man hired help isn't was it used to be..... I got the upper hand on the half dead 1 while the cannon fodder went after the Completely healthly 1. Made the half dead, dead and started on the 2nd when my help died except my healer. She kept up pretty well as I put the smackdown on the last Drake... Close call I had 15% on my health left and no support left....
OH and take a look at Deacon's Perch when you're that way, NICE view.... |

i was wondering if you guys solo while drake hunting? i tried it at sanctum cay but the drakes hang out in groups of 2 or 3 and i can handle one group but before i'm done another group will always show up and before i know it i'm being mobbed by 4-5 drakes.. i can barely survive with a monk henchman..
i found a couple of rares wands and a shield... there was even a blue wand that i couldn't pick up cos i died |
